Getting started
How to play Scripture Crosswords
Choose clues, use the keyboard and hints, save discoveries, and keep a backup of your crossword progress.
Choose a comfortable starting point
Open the first crossword, People of the promise, for nine answers about biblical people. Alternatively, choose a puzzle from the collection or use the daily selection on Today & discover. Playing does not require an account or a payment, and there is no countdown. You can stop partway through and return on the same browser.
The daily selection rotates through existing puzzles. It changes at midnight UTC, which may be a different time where you live. Reopening a puzzle keeps the progress already saved for it.
Select a clue and enter its letters
Choose an Across or Down clue, or select a square in the grid. The highlighted word shows where your answer belongs. Type using your keyboard or the on-screen keys. Crossing answers share a square, so a correct letter can help you solve another clue.
Read the Bible reference as part of the clue. If several answers seem possible, compare the number of squares, the words around the blank, and letters you already know. The game uses KJV wording, which may differ from a translation you remember.
- Arrow keys move between playable squares.
- Space switches direction where two answers cross; selecting the same crossing square again also switches.
- Enter selects the next clue. Backspace clears an entered letter or moves back within the answer.
- Settings & downloads lets you turn automatic movement to the next letter on or off.
Use a nudge when it helps
Check word examines the letters you have entered for the selected answer. It does not fill empty squares. A message that your entered letters are correct can therefore still leave some squares to solve.
Open the hint options to Reveal one letter or Look to scripture. A revealed letter fills the next missing or incorrect position and stays locked. Reading the supporting KJV verse can help you reason out the answer yourself. Both kinds of hints are recorded in your progress.
Continue beyond the completed grid
When the puzzle is complete, explore its discoveries and save useful words to My wordbook. Each saved discovery stays connected to its verse. Wordbook practice lets you try remembering a word and record whether you remembered it or want to try again.
If a clue seems unclear or incorrect, select it and use Report this clue. That opens an email draft containing the puzzle and clue details. Add your explanation and send it from your email app. Sharing a puzzle gives someone a link without including your answers or saved letters.
Make play comfortable and keep a backup
Settings & downloads offers larger text and cells, higher contrast, and optional mistake feedback. Save individual collections or use Save all offline while connected. Offline use needs the app's first full load as well as the collections you want to play.
Progress, settings, wordbook entries and downloads stay in this browser on this device. They do not automatically sync between devices. Use Export progress before clearing browser data or moving devices, then Import progress to restore the backup. Import keeps unrelated saved items and updates matching items with the imported version. Removing a downloaded collection keeps its puzzle progress.
